In Switzerland, the rental deposit for residential premises is limited by law to a maximum of three gross monthly rents including ancillary costs. A higher demand by the landlord would be invalid.
For commercial premises, there is no statutory upper limit. In practice, security deposits of around six monthly rents are common.
